The basis of uprising humanity is mutual liking and kindness, the friendship. A spirit of friendship was always considered as basis of humanity brotherhood. This first, cardinal virtue of Humanity, basic moral value for whole humanity, is called in the language of Heavens inhabitants as Maitri. This word had few meanings, but the friendship, kindness and liking indicate it’s main meaning, and the value so the virtue should be developed firstly among good, close persons, in loving family, among the group of good friends, or in authentic spiritual community. Friends, kind people always talk sincerely and openly what they think or feel and never do any malicious things in spirit behind the back of a sister or brother. Maitri means helping, mutual helping which give to each other people living in good company, brotherhood community or kind family. Lord Buddha Gautama threw away from spiritual community irretrievably everyone who couldn’t keep the friendship, kindness, liking, and everyone who avoided charity among friends on spiritual Way of Life. Undoubtedly a basis of spiritual brotherhood of humanity is friendship among good people, kindness among spiritual association
Maitri doesn’t appear to enemies or torturers unless they show repentance and stop harmful activity. But it appears to those, who are neutral, not harmfully malicious, to those the spirit of kindness and friendship should be always shown. Liking good people is a basis of spirituality.
A supplement and development of Maitri, which is also called brother loving is second Virtue, Caruna, the value translated as sympathy, mercy, help to suffering, who are in need. Caruna is lending sincere and true help, the rescue for sick, suffering people, hungry and homeless, who have problems and suffers from pain. Caruna is not only a feeling of sympathy as sometimes pathological individuals think, sick to laziness and social insensitivity, but it’s instantaneous and spontaneous giving help to people in need, to ease their suffering. Mercy or sympathy is a life basis, which demands from internal need to feed the hungry and dress the naked man, feed in winter hungry birds or contrast to tormenting animals or people. Caruna is feeling, sensitivity to others suffering and giving instantaneous help where the pain, suffering, disease or tragedy takes place. There is no divine Caruna feature in a man who doesn’t help to sick, hungry or homeless people and it can be even refused to cal him a human, because one of real human values he’s deprived of. Human value is a virtue in people only when they express it spontaneously always when there is such need in reasonable, objective way. When a drunker is hungry it’s better to give him food, because when he gets some money probably he’ll spend them to drink and remain hungry. So neither you’ll feed him and make a sin and wickedness of financial supporting drunkenness, what looks always bad in God’s eyes. It’s better to buy a dinner in bar for few hungry men, so they could surely eat to the full. Caruna is not supporting others bad addictions and habits, but drug rehabilitation is already showing the mercy and sympathy during the illness of a neighbour. Maitri and Caruna are features a little bit connected with each other, because Caruna is kind help, coming from Maitri, a support to suffering people in tragic position. So you can translate the Caruna feature as humanitarianism!
Spiritual people will always promote human values in the society, especially among teenagers, and with the example of their behaviour will encourage other to using rules of truly human ethics and morality.
Third virtue or a value of right upbringing is ability to being happy about the life, especially about success and achievements of others. Mudita is ability of being happy about the success of those, who gained the welfare, because Mudita is a medicine against demonism of envy and jealousness. Mudita is a simple and sincere joy, contentment of spiritual or rather elementary human person, contentment with success, victories and promotions of other people. When you’re happy because your work-mate gets a promotion and a rise in salary, it means that you express Mudita sincerely, and the spontaneous ness is the measure of sincerity! Gladdening about success, achievements and good luck of other people is valuable part of every human life. Contemporary humanity should take care about authentic developing Mudita value as a feature of society. Than jealousness and envy disappear from human life and so raised up society will live happily and spontaneously in contentment, gladding about achievements of creators. Malicious critics is immediately eliminated, when a person growing up to next level of humanity expresses just usual joy, is simply happy abut someone’s work, invention, achievement, profit or fame! Mudita is positive and joyful fascination, sincerely shown to the people of success in any field. Ancient say that Mudita is gladness of watching works and successes of honest and upright people.
The fourth rule of humanity that exists in interior of every human soul and should be liberated and manifested is reacting to evil and wickedness. Fourth human value is Upeksha, and it’s authentic cold indifference, ostracism or condemning all evil. Speaking and revealing all evil, crime or wickedness, public slandering it with participation of wicked person is exactly Upeksha. It’s not good to tolerate and hide dishonest, bad, corrupted or criminal persons, but all evil should be purified and removed from your society. Upeksha is stoical ostracism towards evil and wickedness, at first we calm down, and than stop the evil and reveal it. Upeksha towards aggressive animals or people requires calming down and reacting from the depth of internal peace, without fear and terror about bad creature, because the fear is cowardly adviser, always a bad one. From the depth of the peace of spirit comes the courage to stopping and overcoming evil. When you see bandits attacking a victim in the street and beating him, don’t come by indifferently, but with whole indifference towards the one, who is a bad person for you and try to break and stop happening evil. Upeksha means, that if somebody for wickedness becomes excluded from spiritual community, than everybody becomes indifferent towards the wicked person, they calm down all liking to him. The one who punishes the evil can neither have friendly nor hostile attitude towards the evil maker. He must be neutral, indifferent, totally calm and than he will act reasonable towards evil and in right way. Cultivating Maitri – mercy for enemies causing harms is totally unmoral, devilish idea, which is the cause of overgrowing weeds in the world. Friendship with evil, wicked company is basic cause of spiritual and moral fall. Don’t show liking to evil, but only Upeksha, the indifference, neutralism and ostracism, only than there will be the chance that a bad person will undergo the healing. Remain calm in spirit, so have strength and courage to overcome the evil without useless emotions. Four virtues used together in appropriate way, appropriately to circumstances and needs give evidence of achieving fullness of humanity, of developing in somebody the features and values truly human.
The square, four petals of features, Maitri, Caruna, Mudita and Upeksha is a root of energy, human values, basis of all ethics and morality, and Upeksha as the ability of stopping and eliminating evil is a real crown of humanity, making people real heroes in the battle of the world against darkness. These basis of Vedic philosophy and art of living, basis of yoga, mystics and spirituality, basis of righteousness mention often the ancient sages like Sri Pantajali Rishi in the Yogasutra treaty (the book of yoga), recommending human values as universal. Sri Buddha Gautama on these four values had built whole Buddhist culture full of kindness for good and on the other hand full of brave fighters like in Shaolin monastery, that with stoic peace had effectively counteracted every attack of evil. On these values Vedic civilisation of Arians was built, and Indian spiritually-religious culture as well.
Teach, you people, these basic human values all children and teenagers, teach them with word but first of all with your own example, by manifesting each of fur spiritual human characteristics always when there is such need. Only with your won example you can upraise next generations.
